TO VOTE OR NOT TO VOTE; MY DILEMMA
It’s election time again and politicians are up to it again going all round the country from house to house, community to community and region to region canvassing for votes. Each politician on the campaig...
n trail is either making promises or touting his/her party’s achievements during his/her term of office. They speak with passion and portray a sense of empathy that even the most disappointed person in the world would find solace. They plead with electorates to retain or vote them to power but as soon as they win elections, they tend to forget or better still renege on their promises. That is the once affable and sympathetic politician suddenly becomes for the want of a better word, a new man. Politicians in Ghana have disappointed Ghanaians on countless number of occasions and the most annoying thing is that they always have an excuse for not honouring their promises. We have some few days to the December polls and as somebody who would be voting for the first time, I’m at pains as to whether i should vote which is a civic responsibility and a right or i should sit in the comfort of my house and forget about the elections. Why should i continue to vote or vote when all i will get is disappointment? To demonstrate their displeasure, electorates have adopted either the skirt and blouse approach or vote for the opposition candidate but even that strategy has failed. I believe I’m not the only person experiencing this situation as lots of Ghanaians I perceive are also in a dilemma. Come December 7, Ghanaians will decide who would be the president and who would become parliamentarians. Should i vote when i know that it will be another four years of failed promises and neglect?
